Lincoln Rocketry 2016

Please read ALL of this information …

Lincoln Rocketry will be taking applications in the fall.
In order to be eligible, students must purchase and assemble one of the following basic rocket kits and attend one of two summer launch days.  The two launch days are: Friday June 19, 2015 and Friday July 17, 2015. We will meet in the I.T. Classroom at 9am on the Launch Days. To be eligible for the Primary Rocketry Teams, you must make one of these two launch days.

  • Baby Bertha
  • Hi Flier
  • Power Patrol
  • Phantom Blue
  • Yankee
  • Crossfire ISX

Each of these kits can be bought at Hobby Lobby in Oxford or Gadsden and online.  Do not purchase a different kit as these rockets use specific engines that we will be using during the Summer Launch Days.  Students are required to have a completely assembled rocket (built on their own) on one of the two launch days.

I will provide the launch pad, wadding paper,  and engines. Students must provide their functional / flyable rocket. Please take time to decorate and paint your rockets.

In the fall, we will begin forming the rocket teams and their responsibilities. We will also begin meeting with our NAR Team Mentor who will be coming to discuss engineering and design. Engineering and Design will be a major component of the 2016 Rocketry Competition. The requirements for qualification have become more difficult. Each member of the 2016 Rocketry team must be able to use the OpenRocket software package to design rockets and perform virtual test flights.  All potential rocketry students must download the Open Rocket program linked in this article and begin learning to use the software.

Finally, applicants need to create an account at bkellyteacher.com/forums.  We will have a Rocketry Forum for discussing Team News, Launches, and Designs.
